Offshore Cook jobs: Types, Requirements, and Pay


Offshore Rigs have so many employment opportunities other than drilling. These non-drilling jobs such as Medical jobs, Catering, and Electrician jobs are some of the well-paying jobs on the Rig.

Let us see what are some of the catering jobs that are usually available on a vessel.


1) Catering Manager


The role of a catering manager in an offshore rig is to lead teams of chefs and catering assistants, manage the day-to-day catering operations and services, and ensure the quality and safety of all meals served. They are also responsible for writing simplified operating manuals of equipment for the catering crew and safety procedures for the catering staff.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a hospitality-related field or management

  • At least 5 years in a similar position either on board or on land

  • Offshore health certificate

  • Recommended safety courses such as - IADC RigPass course, BOSIET, etc

  • Ship's Cook Certificate.

  • Great communication skills, etc


The pay is usually around 60,000 dollars/per year.


2) Cook


The role of a cook in an offshore rig is to prepare meals for the oil rig crew by following the direction and supervision of cooks and other subordinated personnel in the galley. They should also adhere to strict hygiene and food handling guidelines, maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and food preparation areas, and ensure the safety and performance of the kitchen team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a hospitality-related field or management

  • At Least 3 years in a similar position either on board or on land

  • Offshore health certificate

  • Recommended safety courses such as - IADC RigPass course, BOSIET, etc

  • Many employers also require a food safety certification, such as ServSafe.


The pay is usually around 40,000 dollars/per year.


3) Kitchen Utility and Kitchen Cleaner


Offshore oil rigs require kitchen utility hands to assist the cook with food and dining room preparations, washing dishes or other work in the kitchen






Requirements:

  • No experience or 1 yr experience

  • Offshore health certificate

  • Recommended safety courses such as - IADC RigPass course, BOSIET, etc

The pay is usually around 25,000 dollars/per year.
